Spring Pins, Coiled
Coiled Spring Pins are formed in a much lighter gauge than the slotted version, and the roll is formed of a coil 2.1/4 times to produce similar strength characteristics. This unique coiled spring design gives the pin a set of distinct advantages over other types of pins. Because of the way the coils are layered, the pin can absorb shock and vibration, making it ideal for assemblies where durability and longevity are important. The construction also ensures uniform strength and flexibility throughout the pin, with equal stress distribution that minimizes the risk of failure under load.
Unlike solid or slotted pins, coiled spring pins use their unique spiraled design to flex within the hole once installed. This flexibility acts a bit like a miniature suspension system, allowing the pin to compress and expand slightly as loads shift or vibration occurs.
This movement helps the pin absorb energy from shock or vibration rather than transferring it directly to the walls of the hole. The result? Reduced wear on the assembly, increased life for both the pin and finished product, and a sturdier, more reliable connection overall. Coiled pins are a smart choice where you want a pin to play an active role in withstanding dynamic stresses without damaging the surrounding material.
No special tooling is required for the installation of Coiled Spring Pins. They can be hammered and pressed, and the swaged chamfered ends eases insertion of Coiled Spring Pins, allowing for use in manual or automatic assemblies.
Pinstructure offers three-gauge types of Coiled Spring Pins, to suit a wide range of applications and materials.
- Light Duty Coiled Spring Pins, ISO 8751: Recommended for use with soft, brittle, or thin materials.
- Medium Duty Coiled Spring Pins, ISO 8750: The preferred gauge for Coiled Spring Pins.
- Heavy Duty Coiled Spring Pins, ISO 8748: Used to give extra strength where the assembly is strong enough to apply.
Coiled Spring Pins are available in Carbon Spring Steel and in Nickel Stainless Steel, as standard. Our Steel pins are normally supplied self colour, however we can offer in zinc plated if required. Note finish on certain part numbers may differ from standard stock, this is highlighted within the product description. Alternative materials such as Stainless Chrome are also available, please enquire.
